Penn State Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper Kris Shakes Named NCAA Player Of The Week

He’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere.

Penn State men’s soccer goalkeeper Kris Shakes was named the NCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week Thursday following his performances against No. 1 Syracuse and St. John’s.

In the Nittany Lions’ game against Syracuse, Shakes had five saves and held the reigning national champion to only one goal, setting Penn State up for a draw. Only a few days later in a match against St. John’s, Shakes recorded his fifth career clean sheet as the Nittany Lions shut out the Red Storm 2-0.

So far this season, Shakes has registered a .895 save percentage. In the four games played this season, Shakes has only allowed two goals and recorded two clean sheets.

Shakes was awarded the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award for the second straight week. Fellow Nittany Lion Alex Stevenson was also named Big Ten Player of the Week on the offensive side of the ball, too.

Penn State men’s soccer will continue its 2023 season against Penn on Friday, September 8, at Jeffrey Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
