HiWay Pizza Pub Closes East College Avenue Location

Update, 7 p.m.

HiWay Pizza Pub cited “an abrupt and unforeseen change of plans,” which resulted in the closure of its East College Avenue storefront. However, folks can still purchase and order delivery and carryout from the HiWay Pizza Pub “West” location as usual.

“Along with my father Andy and mother Cathy, I would like to express how truly grateful we are for the support and patronage we have received from downtown community, students, and returning alumni over the years,” Director of Dante’s Restaurants and Nightlife Jennifer Zangrilli said in a release. “While we are sad to say goodbye to our downtown locations, we are enthusiastic about the future and opportunities for growth that lie ahead for us. We are not done!”

All employees from the downtown location have been offered employment at HiWay West, according to the release.

“We would like to thank all of our past employees, customers, and friends for their hard work, patronage, and support,” Dante’s Restaurant and Nightlife Director J.P. Mills said. “We invite everyone to keep the good times rolling with us just 15 blocks away at HiWay West. We are excited for the future and can’t wait to show you what we are planning next.”

Original Story:

HiWay Pizza Pub, formerly located at 340 E. College Ave., closed its downtown State College location and will only continue operations from its “HiWay Pizza West” location at 1301 W. College Ave.

After establishing three locations in State College, just the West College Avenue pizzeria remains.

HiWay operated in the East College Avenue location from 1976 to 2008, then reentered the building from 2019 to 2023 after a stint from Inferno Brick Oven in the storefront.

HiWay Pizza is maintained by Dante’s Restaurants and Nightlife.

The pizzeria’s menu features pizza, calzones, pasta, cheesesteaks, salads, and more that can be purchased at the restaurant’s 1301 W. College Ave. eatery.

A Dante’s spokesperson didn’t respond to an immediate request for comment.
