Two Penn State Women’s Ice Hockey Stars Earn CHA Monthly Awards

Penn State women’s ice hockey’s Josie Bothun and Maggie MacEachern earned mostly awards for College Hockey America (CHA) awards after the Nittany Lions’ opening slate of games against No. 5 Northeastern and UConn.

Bothun was named the CHA Goaltender of the Month, while MacEachern was awarded the conference’s Defensive Player of the Month accolade.

This is Bothun’s ninth time being named CHA’s Goaltender of the Month through a career 94 games and a .929 save percentage. The senior boasts a .949 save percentage in the Nittany Lions’ four games so far this season.

MacEachern also helped lock down the defensive zone for the Nittany Lions in their opening month of play en route to earning the Defensive Player of the Month honor. MacEachern was all over the ice and recorded 11 blocked shots and an assist thus far.

Bothun, MacEachern, and the rest of the blue and white will begin their 12-game road stretch as they travel to No. 3 Colgate on Friday, October 6, in Hamilton, New York. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
