Sisters On The Runway To Host Annual ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ Fundraiser October 10

Sexual and domestic violence prevention and awareness organization Sisters on the Runway (SOTR) will host its annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, at the HUB Lobby off Pollock Road.

The fundraiser aims to raise awareness for domestic abuse and sexual violence against women by encouraging participants to walk a mile in high heels, a shoe generally “associated with gender stereotypes and expectations placed on women.”

SOTR is a national organization founded in 2005 in Montclair, New Jersey, by three high school students. Penn State’s division has been raising awareness about domestic violence since 2014 through various fundraising events including “Walk a Mile in her Shoes.”

SOTR encourages all participants to wear heels to the event. Folks with heels will be asked to pay $7 (cash or check only), while those who aren’t wearing heels can expect to pay $10. Pins will also be available, so extra cash is recommended.

Participants should sign up via an online form before the event. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. at the HUB lobby off Pollock Road, and the walk will begin at 6 p.m. Participants should wear all black to the event.

All proceeds will go directly to Centre Safe, a State College organization founded to provide aid for survivors of domestic abuse.
