Penn State To Dedicate Field Hockey Complex To Former Head Coach Char Morett-Curtiss

After 36 years at the helm of Penn State field hockey, Char Morett-Curtiss will be honored with the namesake of the team’s newly renovated athletic complex.

Morett-Curtiss spent her college eligibility in Happy Valley as a field hockey and lacrosse player, then moved into coaching, and completed her Penn State coaching career with a 575-239-16 record. Now, the complex where she’s spent most of her life will bear the name Char Morett-Curtiss Field.

“…You certainly transformed me into a forever Nittany Lion, but you never made it about you,” Penn State field hockey alum Molly Schriver Sarhage said of Morett-Curtiss. “It was always about us, the players, your assistant coaches, the trainers, anyone on our staff. You never wanted the credit. But, truthfully, we are all here because of you.”

Morett-Curtiss transitioned from the leader of Penn State field hockey to a role as an Athletics advisor and spearheaded efforts to begin the university’s first collective dedicated to female student-athletes: Teammates for Life.

Newly dedicated Char Morett-Curtiss Field is under renovation to upgrade the complex to feature home and visiting dressing rooms, a ticket office, concession areas, a press box, a television broadcast booth, and more. Once completed, the field will include 1,200 seats.

“You lit a fire in each of us,” Sarhage continued. “A fire that took us in all different directions in life, but always coming back here, back to campus, back to the fields, back to you.”
