[Photo Story] 2023 Allen Street Jam

Homecoming Week is officially here, folks.

The week got off to a hot start with the annual Allen Street Jam, a downtown block party featuring live music, free food and drinks, a dance competition, and a presentation of the Homecoming court.

Our photographers were on site on Allen Street to capture all the action. Let’s take a look at the exciting events the afternoon brought.

As pedestrians turned onto Allen Street, they were greeted with lawn games like Spikeball and cornhole.

Community members had the opportunity to help paint the 2023 homecoming logo and corresponding theme: “Illuminate the Lion Within.”

There were plenty of live music offerings throughout the afternoon to keep the energy high.

Various stands and tables lined Allen Street, offering community members free snacks and beverages like cotton candy, lemonade, and popcorn.

From caricature artist Chip Mock to the Polaroid camera station and a custom hat design booth, there were plenty of fun activities to partake in as well.

There were even some furry friends in attendance.

Toward the end of the evening, the Homecoming Court was introduced, including Penn State Alumni Association President Paul Clifford, the alumni court, the university court, and the 12 student and graduate court honorees.

The evening wrapped up with a dance contest featuring Whiplash, Rêve, Volé, Orchesis, and Lyrical Line Dance Company. The competition was fierce, but Whiplash came out on top.

It’s safe to say that the 2023 Allen Street Jam was a success.
