Penn State Hoops & Lady Lions To Play Two Games At Rec Hall

Penn State men’s and women’s basketball will each play one game at Rec Hall this season, Penn State Athletics announced Saturday. Both games will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

The men’s team faces Illinois at 6:30 p.m. on February 21, and the women’s team plays Ohio State at 6 p.m. on February 22. It will be the first time since 2015 that a men’s basketball game will be played at Rec Hall and the first time since 1995 that the Lady Lions will host a game in the space.

Rec Hall served as the home for both teams before the Bryce Jordan Center was built across Penn State’s campus in 1996. The building’s listed capacity is 6,846 but brought in crowds of more than 8,000 on multiple occasions. Currently, the building serves as the home for Penn State men’s and women’s volleyball as well as wrestling.

Both Penn State teams experienced high levels of success during their time at Rec Hall. The men’s team went 514-183 in its several decades in the building, while the women’s team went 203-34. Between 1984 and 1994, the Lady Lions experienced four undefeated seasons at Rec Hall.

The men’s basketball game will be open exclusively to season ticket holders, both at the general and student level. The women’s basketball game will be open to season ticket holders and single-game ticket holders.
