Report: Former Penn State Football Quarterback Trace McSorley Signed To Chicago Bears Practice Squad

Former Penn State football quarterback Trace McSorley was signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday via Twitter. McSorley has been a free agent since being waived by the New England Patriots in late August.

McSorley played for Penn State from 2015-2018, starting at quarterback for the latter three years. He finished his collegiate career with 9,899 passing yards, 77 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions with a 59.3% completion rate. McSorley also rushed for 1,697 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Ashburn, Virginia, native’s passing yards and touchdowns total are second in program history, as Sean Clifford broke both records last season.

After the 2018 season, McSorley was selected with the No. 197 overall pick in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent the next two seasons in Baltimore as a backup for Lamar Jackson, throwing for 90 yards, one touchdown, and a 30% completion rate over three appearances. The Ravens waived McSorley in 2021.

McSorley wasn’t on a 53-man roster until 2022 when the Arizona Cardinals came calling. He appeared in six games for Arizona, including a start on Christmas. McSorley totaled 412 passing yards, five interceptions, no touchdowns, and a 54.22% completion rate in Arizona.

The Patriots gave McSorley a shot in the 2023 preseason but waived him in August.
