Penn State Field Hockey’s Sophia Gladieux Named Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week

The awards and nominations keep rolling in for No. 3, Sophia Gladieux.

Senior forward Gladieux was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week for her execution in the team’s matchups this past weekend.

Per usual, Gladieux had another all-star weekend, specifically against the No. 5 Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday evening. Due to her dominant nature, the Nittany Lions pulled off a huge upset.

Scoring both goals on Sunday, she helped Penn State fight back from an early trail right before the half. Just a few minutes into the third quarter, Gladieux came out ready to work and secured a quick goal, giving the team the boost and momentum to continue fighting in the second half. Iowa never answered with one of its own, and Gladieux’s performance was just what Penn State needed to top off the weekend of Big Ten play.

Gladieux’s show capped off a great home season for the Nittany Lions and a perfect end to Senior Day at Char Morrett-Curtiss Field. The two goals move her to 18 for the season and 69 in her career.

The now 8-7 Nittany Lions will face Indiana at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 27, for its final regular-season matchup.
