Penn State Women’s Volleyball To Open NCAA Tournament Against Yale

It’s dancing time.

After closing its regular season with a 21-8 record, Penn State women’s volleyball will continue its season into the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 5-seeded Nittany Lions will face Yale on Thursday, November 30. Penn State is 8-0 against the Bulldogs dating back to 2002, and the team’s most recent matchup came in 2017 when Russ Rose and Co. swept Yale.

The Bulldogs finished their season undefeated in the Ivy League and clinched the Ivy League Tournament Championship over Brown. The team’s overall record is 21-3, and it registered losses to Northwestern, High Point, and Liberty. Penn State, meanwhile, swept Northwestern in both meetings this season.

The winner of Penn State-Yale will face the victor of No. 4-seeded Kansas and Omaha.

The blue and white are one of five teams featured in the 64-team bracket, including Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Purdue.

This is head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s second NCAA Tournament appearance since taking over the Nittany Lions’ program in 2022 and the team’s 43rd consecutive tournament appearance. Penn State is the only program to play in every NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Nittany Lions fell in five sets to No. 1-seeded Wisconsin in the Sweet Sixteen.

Penn State is 34-9 in all-time NCAA Tournament first-round matches.
