Former Penn State Linebacker Jesse Luketa Gets Lift From Fans En Route To NFL Game
Penn State football alum turned Arizona Cardinal Jesse Luketa was involved in a rather inconvenient situation last Sunday before his team’s NFL game against the Los Angeles Rams.
During his drive to State Farm Stadium last weekend, Luketa reportedly got a flat tire in Phoenix, requiring him to pull over into a gas station parking lot. Unfortunately for the linebacker, he was without a spare.
With under an hour before Luketa needed to arrive at the game, he noticed a family in the car next to him all wearing Cardinal jerseys. With few options providing a timely way to fix the issue, and the game beginning in just a few short hours, he asked the group for a ride.
“You guys going to the stadium? … I’m a player, I got a flat tire, can you guys help me out?” Luketa recalled himself inquiring.
After a brief conference, the confounded Phillips family decided to lend a hand, getting him to the stadium on time and preventing any further stress.
J.W. Phillips said his three kids enjoyed chatting with Luketa in the car, as they asked questions about his career while also providing fantasy football updates.
“The biggest thing I want people to know about this is that [Luketa] is just the nicest guy you will ever meet,” Phillips said.
In return for the ride, the Arizona linebacker gave the Phillips family VIP parking, postgame photos, and tickets to the team’s December matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. The feel-good story was also featured on the Today Show.
Despite the Cardinals losing on Sunday, a new friendship was forged through a simple act of kindness. The Phillips didn’t know who Jesse Luketa was that morning, but by the end of the day, they knew him as not just a player, but a human being.
