[Photo Story] Penn State Football’s College Football Hall Of Fame Tour & Battle For Bowl Week Challenge
Ahead of Penn State football’s Saturday battle for the Peach Bowl, the Nittany Lions and Ole Miss were given the red carpet treatment Wednesday night at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The teams toured the Hall of Fame, ate a group dinner, and competed in a “Battle For Bowl Week” challenge.
The yearly Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl tradition features a fun, enriching tour of the complex, but the dinner got a little rowdy. There’s nothing like friendly competition before battling on the gridiron.
Our photographers were there to capture all the fun and games.
Independent of the Rebels, the Nittany Lions made their way around the Hall of Fame and took in the wall of hundreds of college football helmets. No one in the room could find the classic blue and white helmet but did find some local competition like Millersville and Pitt.
The team competed in the tests and challenges throughout the museum. A 40-yard dash and high jump were among the favorites.
At the height-measuring wall, running back Tank Smith, standing at just 5’7,” stood laughing as he was amazed by how much taller his teammates were than him. Confidence is key.
After admiring the trophies and celebrating seeing co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter’s face in the Hall of Fame, the team made its way to the indoor field for dinner with Ole Miss. On the menu was a steak and a variety of mouth-watering sides.
Then, the fun began. The Battle For Bowl Week included games like Family Feud and trivia.
Penn State put up a strong performance and won Family Feud to close out the first round of games with Family Feud.
Theo Johnson almost sold the game after answering “name something you’d expect to find in a football coach’s office” with “tobacco.” Let’s just say the coaching staff wasn’t thrilled.
But Johnson and his team featuring Olu Fashanu, Liam Clifford, and Tyler Warren pulled through and secured the win.
Trivia ultimately decided the winner. The teams were given multiple choice questions with a set point value and could split up their points between A, B, C, and D, or give all the points to one answer.
Tyler Eldson, Trey Potts, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith made up the final trivia team. After correctly guessing “Lionel Messi” as the most-followed person on Instagram, it was time for the final question.
“What is the most recognizable logo?” The options were McDonald’s or Apple. Potts’ squad went all in on McDonald’s, while Ole Miss put all of its money on Apple.
The answer was Apple, and Ole Miss was ultimately declared the winner of the Battle For Bowl Week.
On Saturday, Penn State and Ole Miss will battle it out for the real bragging rights at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
