Former Penn State Football Stars Joey Porter Jr. & Micah Parsons Named NFL Honors Finalists

Former Penn State football players Joey Porter Jr. and Micah Parsons were named finalists for two of the Associated Press’ 2023 NFL awards, the league announced Thursday.

Parsons is a finalist for the league’s Defense Player of the Year award along with Cowboys teammate DaRon Band, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end, Maxx Crosby, Clevland Browns defensive end, Myles Garrett, and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt.

Parsons finished the season seventh in the NFL in sacks with 14. He also tallied 36 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.

Porter is up for Defensive Rookie of the Year along with Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner, and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

Porter was drafted with the first pick of the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers last spring and had 32 solo tackles and one interception, and allowed a 47.6 completion percentage.

The winners will be announced on Thursday, February 8, and the ceremony will be aired on CBS, NFL Network, Paramount+, and NFL+.
