Reinventing Popular Dances: Penn State Edition

Remember the days when we hit the quan, milly rocked, and dabbed on our haters like it was second nature? Well, we sure do. We here at Onward State were reminiscing about the good old days when a song would just tell you which dance move you should hit. Truly, the 2010s were an iconic time for the music community.

With this on our minds, we decided to reinvent popular dances to better suit the Penn State community. Without further ado, turn on some music, hit the dance floor, and get stanky with it.

Teach Me How To Doggie’s (Teach Me How To Dougie)

Can you teach me how to Doggie’s? This dance is especially useful for the newly 21-year-olds who are adjusting to the true reality of bars after years at The Den. All you need is a beat that’s super bumpin’ and to back it up and Doggie’s! People will be buying you drinks left and right once they see you hit that Doggie’s right.

Whoop and Nae Nae (Whip and Nae Nae)

Now watch me whoop, now watch me nae nae. This move could get the White Loop bumping. Imagine throwing your fist out in front and swaying side to side while on a CATA Bus. The nae nae part will come in handy when you need to wave the bus driver down if you’re moments away from missing the bus.

We Are Penn State (W.A.P.)

From the top, make it drop, We Are Penn State. I’m talking WAP, WAP, WAP extra large, and extra hard. Out in public, this dance will make a scene with the way people scream “We Are Penn State.” Alumni will gobble this up for sure. No need for a bucket and a mop since you’ll already be sweeping the floor with this dance.

Milly Cocktagon (Milly Rock)

Playboi Carti might milly rock in New York, but in State College, we milly cocktagon. With cocktagons holding such a special place on gameday, why not have a little dance party while you’re there? Whether you’re running from the opp or hiding something in your sock, this move would be a show-stopper!

Olu On That Beat (Juju On That Beat)

Imagine you walk into a party with all the girls looking at you. You have your skinny jeans on and your hair is looking nappy. Your only option is to Olu on that beat. You gotta slide, drop, hit dem folks, or in Olu’s case, defensive linemen, and don’t stop. If any haters come your way, just tell them that they ugly, and that they’re their daddy’s son.

[James] Franky Leg (Stanky Leg)

Does anyone else smell that? Oh yeah, that’s the [James] Franky Leg, ya dig? After a win, it’s safe to assume the football team turns up in the locker room. I mean, how could the squad resist hitting its coach’s signature move? When you hit the dance floor, you already know the Franky Leg will stink up the place. And yeah, it’s really stanky.

Gameday Style (Gangnam Style)

Picture this: It’s gameday and we’re down in the fourth quarter. Instead of doing the traditional Lion King start up, we hit the gameday style and Nick Singleton rushes 95 yards for the game-winning touchdown. Now, I can’t speak for everyone, but that sounds pretty awesome. Gameday style would take the student section to the next level.

Hit The [HUB] Lawn (Hit The Quan)

I said get down low and hit the [HUB] Lawn. As soon as State College is sunny again, the HUB Lawn will be the prime spot to hit the lawn. This move will have Penn Staters pulling up on the block and doing the dance like crazy. Other schools will want to walk around us and try to steal our lingo and dances.

Boot Scootin’ [Benda]Pudi (Boot Scootin’ Boogie)

Despite its southern roots, this dance is dosie-doeing its way up to State College. Seniors start getting down, turning around, and going to town because the boot scootin’ pudi could take over graduation in the spring.
