Penn State Softball Freshman Bridget Nemeth Named Big Ten Pitcher Of The Week
Penn State softball pitcher Bridget Nemeth was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after posting a 1.09 ERA at the Paradise Classic in Florida.
Nemeth, a freshman from Glendora, California, appeared in all five games and started in two. In 19.1 innings pitched, she allowed 13 hits and three walks while tallying 14 strikeouts. She is the first freshman to receive the honor in Penn State softball program history.
Nemeth led her team to a 5-0 start, including a 3-2 upset win over No. 16 Arkansas in extra innings. In the game, she entered as a relief pitcher in the seventh inning and faced a minimum of six batters over two innings, striking out three batters and not giving up a single hit or walk. It is just the third 5-0 start in program history.
Through opening weekend of collegiate softball, Nemeth is tied for first nationally in overall victories and is first in the Big Ten in innings pitched, fifth in the conference in walks allowed per seven innings, and seventh in the conference in strikeouts.
Nemeth and the blue and white will return to action at THE Spring Games in Leesburg, Florida. The team’s first game is set for 2 p.m. on Friday, February 16, against Kansas. The game will be streamed on FloSoftball.
