Former Penn State Hoops Guard Andrew Funk Signs Two-Way NBA Contract With Chicago Bulls
Andrew Funk has found a new home.
The former Penn State men’s basketball player signed a two-way NBA contract with the Chicago Bulls, the team announced Sunday. Funk spent the 2022-23 season with the Nittany Lions after playing four years with Bucknell.
Despite only playing one season at Penn State, Funk made his time count. He helped the Nittany Lions reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 12 years, even picking up an upset opening-round win against Texas A&M before falling to Texas in the second round. During that season, Funk also led the Big Ten in three-pointers made with 112 and a three-point shooting percentage of 41.2%.
After the fantastic season, Funk went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. He then signed a deal with the Denver Nuggets to join its Summer League team, reuniting him with college teammate Jalen Pickett. Funk appeared in four games and averaged 5.2 points.
Before the start of the season, Funk was waived by the Nuggets but was resigned weeks later and assigned to their NBA G League affiliate team the Grand Rapids Gold.
Funk appeared in 24 games with Grand Rapids and averaged 13.4 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 37.3 minutes per game. He also led the team in three-pointers made with 71 and was one of the top shooters in the entire G League, averaging 39.6% from beyond the arc.
With the two-way contract, Funk can be called up to the Bulls at any point during the season but can also continue to earn playing time with the Bulls’ G league team the Windy City Bulls.
