Special Olympics PA To Host Annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run April 14

Penn State will host the Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s (SOPA) 15th annual two-mile family fun run at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, at Beaver Stadium.

More than 3,500 runners and walkers of all ages and abilities can partake in this year’s fun run. The run will talk place around campus, starting at the Bryce Jordan Center and finishing through the Beaver Stadium tunnel and on the 50-yard line.

Access to the field is for participants only, however, spectators have the option to enter the stadium through Gate B at 11 a.m. for available 34-yard line seating. 

For the first time, Mount Nittany Health will sponsor the event, and Sheetz will present the run.

“Special Olympics Pennsylvania is thrilled to partner with Mount Nittany Health for this year’s Beaver Stadium Run/Walk! Working alongside Mount Nittany Health will continue to help us expand healthy activity opportunities across Pennsylvania,” Special Olympics Pennsylvania Chief People Officer & EVP Pam Velasquez said in a release. “We are eager to keep building healthy and inclusive communities together, especially at Penn State this April.” 

The first, second and third place overall finishers will receive Sheetz gift cards valued at $100, $50, and $25, along with their respective medals.

All participants will receive an official Beaver Stadium Run t-shirt, water, and other refreshments.

Registration to run or walk is $35 with a discounted rate of $20 for students with a valid Penn State ID. Children under nine are free. Visit the run’s website to register for the event or folks can register up until the run starts.
