Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Midfielder Kristin O’Neill Reels In National Awards

After registering the game-winning goal in Penn State women’s lacrosse’s overtime upset over No.1 Northwestern, midfielder Kristin O’Neill earned a handful of conference and national awards following her performance.

The Odenton, Maryland, native was named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Player of the Week.

O’Neill tallied six total goals, including the game-winner, and put together three of four free-position shots and three ground balls. The honor is Penn State’s second straight Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week recognition following Gretchen Gilmore clinching the award on March 21.

Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Manning was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after tallying four saves and a ground ball in the upset of the Wildcats.

The blue and white jumped to No. 19 in the Inside Lacrosse weekly rankings after the upset and bumped Northwestern from the top seat to No. 3. Penn State will return to action against Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, in Columbus.

Missy Doherty and Co. will return to Panzer Stadium to take on Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, for its Pride Game.
