Riko’s Pizza To Open Near Penn State Football Season In Downtown State College

Penn State, another pizza place is coming your way.

Riko’s Pizza is set to open a State College location. The tavern-style pizza joint expects to open at 142 E. College Ave., taking over the former location of Spat’s Cafe, near the kickoff of Penn State football’s season.

Riko’s will offer dine-in and takeout options. It serves a thin-crust, crispy pizza that calls back to pub-style pizza from the earlier part of the 20th century. The pies are 13 inches, cut into six slices, and offer a gluten-free option. The Riko’s menu will also offer wings, salads, appetizers, and deserts.

Riko’s will also include a bar that features 22 bar stools and 14 TVs, creating an experience CEO Rico Imbrogno said will be set for watching Penn State Athletics events.

“There were a lot of important drivers behind the decision to bring Riko’s to State College,” Imbrogno said. “but above all, we were attracted to the college town community and atmosphere, which aligns perfectly with what we offer as a concept.”

Riko’s will be run by Mike Vigilante, a Penn State dad who previously served on the company’s corporate team. Vigilante entered into a franchise agreement with Riko’s in 2023 and finalized a lease for the College Avenue space near the end of the year.

Riko’s is set to hire 30-45 team members upon opening, including kitchen staff, wait staff, bartenders, bussers, and other onsite employees. Those interested in applying can visit their website for more info.
