Penn State Baseball Pitcher Mason Horwat Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

Penn State baseball pitcher Mason Horwat was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after aiding the sweep against Maryland this past weekend, the conference announced Monday.

Horwat, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, picked up a win and a save in two relief appearances against the Terrapins to help Penn State secure a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. During the series, he pitched seven innings, allowing only three total hits.

On the season, Horwat is 4-1, with two saves and a 4.35 ERA in 51.2 innings. In Big Ten play, he’s 2-1, with a 4.05 ERA in 12 appearances. This was Horwat’s first Big Ten honor and the first for Penn State since Bobby Marsh in May of 2023.

Horwat and the rest of the Nittany Lions will travel to Omaha, Nebraska, for the Big Ten Tournament. They will play Illinois in the first round at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will be live on the Big Ten Network.
