Penn State Men’s Hockey Moves Up To No. 5 In USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey moved up one spot to No. 5 in the rankings, according to USCHO on Monday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions defeated the Buckeyes 11-4 on Friday night with Gavin McKenna setting the single-game program records for points. He had one goal and seven assists on the night. Josh Fleming started in the net for Penn State, making 38 saves in the victory.

Penn State came back from a three-goal deficit to beat Ohio State in overtime, 5-4. McKenna was the overtime hero after Jarod Crespo scored late in the third period to send the game to overtime. Kevin Reidler made 33 saves in the win over the Buckeyes.

With the win against Ohio State, Penn State secured home ice in the Big Ten Quarterfinals and sits at third in the Big Ten standings.

The Nittany Lions travel to South Bend and play Notre Dame at 7:05 p.m. Friday, February 27, at Compton Family Ice Arena.
