Penn State Women’s Soccer Hires Declan Doherty As Assistant Coach
Penn State women’s soccer announced the hiring of Declan Doherty as an assistant coach on Wednesday, finalizing the coaching roster ahead of the 2024 season.
“We are thrilled to welcome Declan to our Penn State women’s soccer family,” head coach Erica Dambach said in a release. “He brings a significant amount of experience working with players at every level of the game, and I am thrilled to see how his knowledge will positively impact our staff and student-athletes.”
Doherty brings experience at the professional, collegiate, and academy levels in both Northern Ireland and the United States. Most recently, he served as an academy coach and performance analyst for NWSL side Racing Louisville FC and was a performance analyst for the University of Louisville.
While at Louisville, he helped the Cardinals make an NCAA Tournament appearance in his first year and developed multiple players to All-ACC accolades, especially helping their first draft selection in program history, Emina Ekic.
“I am incredibly excited to be given the opportunity to work at such an elite level program,” Doherty said in the release. “Every interaction with the staff and the players has always exuded quality and class. I am looking forward to competing for titles and helping to develop the incredible women in this program for their professional careers beyond Penn State.”
Before Louisville, Doherty spent time at Evansville and Buffalo in the United States, as well asĀ Ulster University Jordanstown women’s team and the Queens University BelfastĀ men’s team in Ireland.
