Penn State Men’s Hockey Defenseman Christian Berger Signs With ECHL’s Maine Mariners

Former Penn State men’s hockey defenseman and captain Christian Berger signed a contract with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners, the team announced Monday.

Berger captained the Nittany Lions last season. He scored two goals and tallied four assists for six points in 30 appearances. The St. Louis, Missouri, native had nine goals and 33 assists for 42 points over four seasons in Hockey Valley. The 2022-23 season was his best, with five goals and 15 assists for 20 points.

Berger joins forwards Christian Sarlo and Xander Lamppa as former Penn State players to join the Mariners. It’s his professional debut with one of the Boston Bruins’ minor league affiliates.
