Penn State Football Announces 2024 Team Captains

Almost there, folks.

With two weeks left before the Nittany Lions start their 2024 campaign, the program announced the 2024 captains Saturday on Twitter. Dominic DeLuca, KJ Winston, Drew Allar, Kobe King, Nick Dawkins, and Riley Thompson will lead the team this year.

DeLuca, a linebacker from West Pittston, Pennsylvania, was also a captain during the 2023 season. In his redshirt sophomore season, DeLuca appeared in 13 games on defense and special teams, recording 29 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a blocked punt.

Winston is entering his third year with the Nittany Lions after appearing in 12 games during his true freshman season. The Columbia, Maryland, native led the team last year with 60 total tackles while also racking up two fumble recoveries, an interception, and five pass breakups in 13 appearances.

Allar was named a captain prior to his second year as the starting quarterback in Happy Valley. Last year, the quarterback completed 59.9% of his passes for 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns, and two interceptions while adding four touchdowns and 170 rushing yards.

The second linebacker in this year’s group of captains, King started in 11 games last year while appearing in all 13 contests. He recorded 41 tackles, recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, and broke up three passes during his redshirt freshman season.

Dawkins, entering his redshirt senior season, saw action in all 13 games last year on offense and special teams. The Allentown, Pennsylvania, native saw action at center and guard last year and also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was the winner of Penn State’s Public Service Award.

Thompson announced he would be returning to Penn State for another year after being granted a two-year extension by the NCAA in December. The punter ended the 2023 season with an average punt of 45.8 yards with 17 punts landing inside the 20.
