Abdul Carter Makes AP Preseason All-American Second Team

Penn State football defensive end Abdul Carter has been named to the AP Preseason All-American Second Team as an edge rusher, the AP announced Monday. Carter, who played linebacker for his first two seasons, was the lone Nittany Lion on the list.

Carter, entering his third year with Penn State, has donned the famous No. 11 jersey for the Nittany Lions as one of the nation’s top linebackers in the country. The former linebacker has registered 105 tackles, 11 sacks, 10 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and an interception in his Penn State career.

This past offseason, Carter made the switch to defensive end, a position that will favor his rushing ability that has caused havoc for opposing offenses throughout his career. The switch came right after the departure of Chop Robinson and Adisa Issac when they were drafted into the NFL this past spring.

Carter has already been named to multiple award watchlists this offseason including the Lombardi Award, Bednarik Award, Lott IMPACT Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Penn State will open up its season against West Virginia at noon on Saturday, August 31, in Morgantown.
