Penn State Wrestling Breaks Its Own National Championship Team Score Record For Third Straight Year

They just keep getting better, folks.

After clinching its fifth straight national championship and 13th in 15 years, Penn State wrestling capped off yet another incredible season by beating its own team scoring record for the third straight year at the NCAA Championships.

The final score of 181.5 ascended over last season’s record of 177, where Penn State had two national champions, including 10 All-Americans. This year, the record was broken by Josh Barr with a 6-3 win over Oklahoma State’s Cody Merrill at 197 pounds.

Four Nittany Lions took home individual titles en route to the record-breaking performance featuring Luke Lilledahl, Mitchell Mesenbrink, Levi Haines, and Josh Barr. Shayne Van Ness and Rocco Welsh finished as national runners-up while true freshmen PJ Duke and Marcus Blaze took home third and fourth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Eight Penn Staters earned All-American status while an NCAA record-tying six made it to the national finals.

In second place, Oklahoma State finished with 131. After session V, Penn State led the Cowboys 164-119.
