Report: Tariq Castro-Fields Claimed Off Waivers By Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers claimed former Penn State football cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields off waivers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Castro-Fields was released by the Washington Commanders a day before.

Castro-Fields came to Penn State in 2017, appearing in 12 games during his true freshman season. The cornerback made his first start in 2018 and finished his sophomore season tied for second on the team with seven pass breakups.

After two more strong seasons at the position, Castro-Fields used his COVID-19 season to return to Penn State for the 2021 season. In his final year in Happy Valley, the Upper Marlboro, Maryland, native made 32 tackles, bringing his career total to 138.

Castro-Fields was selected with the 43rd pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the San Fransisco 49ers but was waived before the season began. Castro-Fields didn’t see any action during the 2022 season, but appeared in eight games in 2023, notching four total tackles.
