Transfer Portal Roundup: Week One
While Penn State football dominated in West Virginia on Saturday, the Nittany Lions were without several notable names. After the 2023 season, a handful of players joined the group of student-athletes who transferred away from Penn State.
While Penn State reminded West Virginia what losing felt like, those former Penn State players were marking their marks at their new programs. Here’s a look at how those players did across the weekend.
Keandre Lambert-Smith, Auburn
Penn State’s leading pass catcher from the 2023 season, Keandre Lambert-Smith, left for Auburn in the transfer portal during the offseason. Lambert-Smith’s debut for the Tigers was quite explosive, as he finished the day with three catches for 80 yards and hauled in two touchdowns during Auburn’s 70-3 dismantling of Alabama A&M.
Ta’Quan Roberson, Kansas State
Quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson is on his third collegiate team after he left Happy Valley for UConn and then transferred once again this offseason to Kansas State. In his opening game against UT Martin, Roberson threw three passes, completing one for four yards.
Keyvone Lee, Mississippi State
Running back Keyvone Lee had a solid first outing for Mississippi State, rushing for 40 yards on nine carries. He also hauled in one catch for two yards.
Cristian Driver, Minnesota
Wide receiver Christian Driver brought in just one catch for one yard in Minnesota’s 19-17 loss to North Carolina.
Alex Bacchetta, Rice
Punter Alex Bacchetta was a very busy man in Rice’s opening game against Sam Houston, as he punted seven times, averaging 41.9 yards per punt. His longest punt went for 50 yards in the 34-14 loss to the Bearcats.
Christian Veilleux, Georgia State
Quarterback Christian Veilleux made his debut for his third collegiate team this weekend against Georgia Tech. He completed 19 of his 34 attempts, totaling 210 passing yards and a touchdown in the 35-12 loss.
Malick Meiga, Coastal Carolina
Wide receiver and former Penn State captain Malick Meiga reeled in one catch for 46 yards in Coastal Carolina’s opening 55-27 win over Jacksonville State.
