Alyssa Naeher Nominated For 2024 Women’s Ballon D’Or

Former Penn State women’s soccer and current Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was nominated for the 2024 Women’s Ballon d’Or, France Football announced on Wednesday.

The Balon d’Or nomination came just weeks after Naeher helped lead the United States women’s national team to its fifth gold medal. Naeher started all six games in the 2024 Paris Olympics, recording 21 saves on a .913 save percentage. The Nittany Lion only allowed two goals throughout the tournament, neither coming in the knockout stages.

On a professional level, Naeher has found similar success in the NWSL, ranking in the top 10 in goals against, save percentage, and total saves this season. The keeper also has three clean sheets despite facing the fifth-most shots on target a game with 75.

During her time with Penn State, Naeher appeared in 74 matches, recording 301 saves, 21 clean sheets, and a .820 save percentage. Naeher left Happy Valley as a two-time NSCAA First Team-All American, a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and Big Ten Tournament Defensive MVP.
