Brainstorming Penn State-Themed Replacements For Sweet Caroline’s ‘Bum, Bum, Bum’

Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” is a staple at many collegiate sporting events, and there are two lines that stand out at every game.

As most folks already know (if you don’t, I hope you like the rock you live under), the song goes “Sweet Caroline,” before a loud “bum, bum, bum” from the crowd. Then, Diamond sings, “Good times never seemed so good,” leading to a “so good, so good, so good” from the fans.

However, some schools replace those fan callouts with custom ones, such as Pitt singing “Let’s go, Pitt!” while West Virginia shouts, “Eat shit, Pitt!”

It’s time Penn State fans get creative. So, here are some ideas for Penn State-themed responses to include the next time “Sweet Caroline” is played at a sporting event in Happy Valley.

“Let’s Go, State!”

It’s clean. It’s simple. It’s the pride of Penn State. Instead of a “bum, bum, bum,” go with “Let’s Go, State!” to show your school spirit. Follow it up with a “Go State” to replace each “so good” by Neil Diamond.

“PSU”

“PSU” is a basic three-syllable replacement for “bum, bum, bum,” and it doesn’t leave anyone second-guessing what college you’re showing off your pride for. You could even combine this with the first one, and still replace “so good” with “Go State” since there isn’t a great option using these three letters.

“Blue & White”

We love our school colors. “So good” could simply be replaced by “blue and white” to show the pride of Penn State.

“Onward State”

This isn’t just about the blog. “Onward State” is part of Penn State’s fight song, and “Onward” is also an easy replacement for “so good.” It’s also about the blog a little bit.

“CJF”

Some fans love coach James Franklin. Others don’t. However, yelling “CJF” at a Penn State football game would be pretty fun. I say we double down and go with “Franklin” to replace “so good.”

“Creamery”

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Can’t get your mind off a sweet treat? That’s alright, sing along to “Sweet Caroline” and replace “bum, bum, bum” with “Creamery” and “so good” with “Berkey.” Then, we’ll go to the Creamery after the game.
