Brainstorming New Beaver Stadium Sound Mixes
Jack Scott and his audio-mixing masterclass contributed to this post.
If you’ve been to a Penn State football game this season, you’ve heard “Make some noise!” and “Are you ready?!” 100 times. Although these are made to hype up the crowd, there needs to be a refresh of music and sound effect mixes to keep the vibes from getting stale in Beaver Stadium.
We here at Onward State did a quick brainstorm and created some possible mixes for the rest of the Penn State football season.
‘It’s Time To Play The Game’
Imagine this coming on before the first snap of the game. The Blue Band is playing, fireworks are going off, and the visiting team’s offense is taking the field. At this point, we’re expecting the famous intro to “Mo Bamba” or another song that gets the crowd singing loud. Only this time, you hear the instrumental to “Purple Lamborghini” but with a twist. “It’s Time to Play the Game!” HELL YES IT IS! I’d like to see how the Nittany Lion faithful would respond to this track.
‘It’s Time!’
This could be a classic intro for the Nittany Lions, whether it be from the start of the game, coming back from half, or even after a timeout. The mix highlights the best ring announcer of all time, Bruce Buffer, who is sure to get everyone in Beaver Stadium rocking.
‘Here Comes The Boom!’
This one is sure to be popular. Your favorite Costco duo is here. Imagine this mix coming on after a big hit on third down. The stadium is going crazy but instead of playing “Kernkraft 400,” this comes on instead. Now, A.J. and Big Justice haven’t made their way to Happy Valley yet, but you can’t tell me this isn’t a fire mashup with “Here Comes the Boom” by Nelly.
The Purge
This track is definitely niche. Everyone’s heard of the Purge siren, but do you remember the tornado siren guy from TikTok? Yeah, that’s him in the background. As soon as this project came to light, I knew this guy had to be involved. Some of you may not get hyped over this, but if it were me in the stands and this song came on, you couldn’t get me to quiet down. I’d love to hear this before a big third down or during a goal-line stand late in the game. I think it’ll get the crowd into it more than you think.
‘Here’s Johnny!’
Penn State plays its biggest game of the year just a couple of days after Halloween this year. Ohio State is consistently ranked in the top five nationally and is one of the two biggest thorns in the side of the Nittany Lions year after year. Because of this occasion, we thought it was necessary to make a scary sound. The mix of the Halloween Theme, the “Here’s Johnny!” scene out of “The Shining,” and the whistle of death from “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” has a menacing feel that is sure to strike fear into any of the Ohio State-nut fan club.
Taylor
We couldn’t forget about the Swifties out there. I may not share the fandom y’all have for Taylor Swift, but I do like the beat of this song. Within the track, “…Ready For It?” you may (but probably won’t) recognize the cameo from our managing editor, Joe Lister, letting the whole stadium know what down it is. I’m no Swiftie, but Lister has got me hyped for the Nittany Lions on what would be a pivotal third-down play.
We could go on and on about the possibilities of the mashups Beaver Stadium could play through the loudspeakers. We are tired of hearing “Make some noise!” and “Are you ready?!” over and over again (although they are timeless). Take these as inspiration and mix it up, Beaver Stadium!
