Joker Lips & Beetlejuice Costumes: Meet Penn State Warner Bros. Student Ambassador Rachel Traub

Who’s behind the Joker lips and Bob costume around downtown and Penn State’s campus? It’s Rachel Traub, a Warner Bros. Student Ambassador.

Traub found out about the Warner Bros. Ambassador experience over the summer and recently started.

“It was through an email from [Bellisario College of Communications’ Assistant Dean for Internships and Career Placement] Bob Martin, and I saw it, and I thought it was super cool, so I reached out and just was asking some questions about it,” Traub said. “It’s still pretty new. I’ve only done Beetlejuice and Joker so far.”

Being a Warner Bros. student ambassador entails many tasks in regard to campaigns and advertisements.

“For the most part, anytime a new Warner Bros. film comes out, we promote those titles on the Penn State campus,” Traub said. “We have specific campaign ideas — like for Beetlejuice they gave us a Bob costume and said to create digital content and hold events with it.”

Traub’s job is to bring awareness to campus about the various Warner Bros. films set to release in the coming weeks.

“Typically, [these events] happen the week before the movie comes out, and they’ll ask us to do one event, but we’re allowed to do more than that,” Traub said. “For Beetlejuice, we had a special crumble cookie, and for the Joker, they want us to do a karaoke night or themed bar night.”

Traub and Doggies Pub recently collaborated in organizing a themed bar night on October 3. People could get their face painted or win Joker merchandise through a raffle. She also hosted a Joker screening with the Student Film Organization at Penn State.

On top of these events, Traub also posts social media content to better spread the news of upcoming releases.

“There’s a specific college plan that we get that’ll have the events that they want us to hold, and then on top of that we can brainstorm things with other ambassadors and can pitch ideas to them,” Traub said. “We have to get our ideas approved, but there is lots of leniency with being creative. With the different Tiktok content that we do and the Instagram videos that we make, as long as they approve it, we’re good to go.”

Though this experience is still new to Traub, she’s learned a lot already. As a film major, she’s had experience in sets, cameras, and lighting, so being a Warner Bros. ambassador has expanded her experiences.

“This was definitely new for me because it’s more of the publicity side, ads, and PR side of things,” Traub said. “I’ve learned so much using social media, like how to boost things, how to grow an account. I learned the different copyright rules of when you put a poster out, or for different art that we use.”

Although Traub has only done Beetlejuice and the new Joker movie, she has plans for upcoming Warner Bros. films.

“There’s a new Lord of the Rings movie coming out, and then we’re brainstorming for Companion, which comes out in 2025, so there’s so much that goes with it,” said Traub. “It’s been so fun, and I have met a ton of ambassadors from other colleges, so it’s just been an overall great experience.”
