“We are aware of the serious charges against Mr. Keys and Mr. Lyons, who are no longer enrolled at the University,” Senior Associate Athletic Director of Communications Kris Petersen told Onward State. “The safety of our community is our top priority, and Penn State takes any report of sexual assault or misconduct very seriously and investigates any and all reports.”
Original Story:
Former Penn State football players Jameial Lyons and Kaveion Keys are to be charged with counts of rape and indecent assault several months after their removal from the program, according to court documents released Tuesday.
Lyons, a defensive end, is to be charged with one felony count of rape, two of aggravated indecent assault without consent, and one of deviant sexual intercourse. He’ll also be charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and invasion of privacy.
Keys, a linebacker, will be charged with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault without consent, and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.
The pair is set to be arraigned at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, in State College. Their preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30. Magisterial District Judge Donald M. Hahn will preside over the case.
Lyons and Keys were removed from the program in August after being placed on interim suspension in late July.
Penn State Athletics did not immediately answer Onward State’s request for comment.
