Chris Godwin’s NFL Season Likely Over
Former Penn State football and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has been placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.
The eight-year veteran went down with a dislocated ankle in the Buccaneers 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at Raymond James Stadium. Godwin suffered the season-ending ankle injury with just 43 seconds remaining in regulation.
After the game, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was asked by a reporter why Godwin was in the game up to that point.
“He’s a player, we’re still down 10,” Bowles said. “We’re trying to get extra points and kick another onside kick, it just happened.”
Before sustaining the injury, Godwin was on pace for a prolific season. The long-time Buccaneer amassed 576 receiving yards on 50 receptions with five touchdowns, ranking second in total receiving yards. Godwin has been down the road of recovery before sustaining an ACL and MCL late in the 2021 season.
Godwin is set to enter free agency after this season, and his time as a Buccaneer is in question. The Buccaneers drafted Godwin with the 84th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Godwin has been a staple in the Buccaneer offense and won Super Bowl LV with the team during the 2020-21 NFL season.
