Court Documents Detail Accusations Against Jameial Lyons & Kaveion Keys

Centre Country court records obtained by Onward State on Wednesday detailed charges of rape, indecent assault, and more to be levied against former Penn State football players Jameial Lyons and Kaveion Keys. Accusations against Lyons and Keys were first publicized on Tuesday.

According to an affidavit filed against Keys, Lyons and Keys assaulted a 17-year-old Penn State student, identified as Victim No. 1, at 1 a.m. on July 7 at her Nittany Apartments residence. The victim attended an off-campus event and left with Lyons, Keys, and two other girls to Lyons and Keys’ apartment. The girls were provided with alcohol at both locations.

The other girls, identified as Victim No. 2 and Witness No. 1, fell asleep, according to the affidavit. Victim No. 1 watched TV in Keys’ bedroom with Lyons and Keys while the pair smoked marijuana.

As Victim No. 1 felt like she was falling asleep, Lyons and Keys approached her on either side and began groping her, according to police. Victim No. 1 was forcibly penetrated and forced to perform oral sex by both former players.

According to the affidavit, Victim No. 1’s face was pushed onto the mattress to the point that she said she could not breathe. She saw a flash she believed to come from the players recording the encounter. The players denied the accusation of recording the interaction.

Victim No. 1 managed to get away from the bed and tried to wake up Victim No. 2 and Witness No. 1, according to police. Witness No. 1 woke up and saw Victim No. 1 being removed from the apartment by Lyons, who told Victim No. 1, “Bitch, you’re not coming back here ever,” and, “Stay the f*** out of our life.”

According to the affidavit, Lyons told police he believed the interaction was consensual, though he said he believed the interaction would be reported to police.

According to police, Lyons and Keys’ phone camera rolls were examined. Keys’ camera roll contained a video of the interaction.

After Victim No. 1 was removed from the residence, according to the affidavit against Lyons, Victim No. 2 woke up and went to the bathroom to vomit. Lyons led her out of the bathroom and into his bedroom, where she fell back asleep.

Victim No. 2 believed she was clothed when she fell asleep, according to the affidavit. She woke up without pants on and with Lyons touching and penetrating her.

When police arrived at the players’ apartment with a search warrant on July 8, according to the affidavit, Keys denied knowing Victim No. 1. He acknowledged females were at his apartment but denied engaging in sexual contact with any of them.

Lyons, a defensive end, is to be charged with one felony count of rape, two of aggravated indecent assault without consent, and one of deviant sexual intercourse. He’ll also be charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and invasion of privacy.

Keys, a linebacker, will be charged with felony counts of rape, sexual assault, and aggravated indecent assault without consent, and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault.

Lyons and Keys were removed from Penn State’s team in August after being placed on interim suspension in July.

On Tuesday, Penn State Athletics spokesperson Kris Peterson responded to Onward State’s request for comment.

“We are aware of the serious charges against Mr. Keys and Mr. Lyons, who are no longer enrolled at the University,” Petersen wrote. “The safety of our community is our top priority, and Penn State takes any report of sexual assault or misconduct very seriously and investigates any and all reports.”
