[Photo Story] 814 Cider Works Combines Autumnal Atmosphere With Delicious Drinks

A tasty cider in the setting of a cozy orchard, what could be better?

While it’s open all year round, 814 Cider Works thrives in the fall. The local cidery, located about 10 minutes outside downtown State College, captures the quintessential spirit of the season, entertaining guests with cider, live music, board games, and more.

814 Cider Works has been serving the Happy Valley community since it opened in the summer of 2019. The cidery has a rotating selection of alcoholic ciders, with ranging flavor profiles and levels of sweetness.

“I feel like a lot of people that walk through the door that may or may not be cider people to begin with leave as newly-found cider drinkers,” owner Andrew LeClair told Onward State in 2023.

To soak up the good vibes, we went to check out what was going on at the cidery this time of year. Let’s take a look at some of the photos we captured.

814 Cidery offers a mix of indoor, outdoor, and tent seating. During the winter months, the indoor and tent seating is likely more popular, but on a beautiful fall day, everyone goes outside.

Drinks can be ordered from your table or at the bar inside. The inside was decked out in decorations for Halloween. The cidery also has a collection of board games customers can borrow to play.

The cidery always has a rotating selection of six alcoholic ciders on draft. They offer flights of four or all six ciders, as well as the usual single portions.

While the orchard doesn’t have its own kitchen, it regularly brings in food trucks so guests have the chance to grab a bite to eat.

There’s also a fire pit for those wanting to warm up as the sun sets.

You can’t go apple picking here, but people are welcome to wander down into the orchard itself.

We’re nearing the end of apple season, but you can still find some stray apples left on the trees.

The entire cidery is surrounded by rolling hills of beautifully colored fall trees. What a beautiful place to spend a fall day!
