Brainstorming Penn State Virtual Portal Locations

On October 22, a video portal was placed in Philadelphia. This virtual portal connects to cities in Ireland, Lithuania, and Poland, rotating between the different locations every three minutes. This portal was part of a multi-city art installation and aims to connect people across the globe.

Since many Penn Staters are from the “outside of Philly” area, our staff decided to brainstorm some ideas for where a Penn State portal could be placed to best share that “Happy Valley hospitality” with the world.

So without further ado, let’s take a gander.

Old Main

It’s a classic, and she’s a beaut. Who wouldn’t want to take in Old Main’s aura any time, any place?

Beaver Stadium

This truly is the holy grail of Penn State. It’s almost guaranteed students, friends, and alumni all over the world would stop and look at one of the largest college football stadiums, and maybe even interact with some fans!

Champs Downtown

People enjoy a good beverage all over the world. Some travel near and far to explore Penn State’s bar scene, so why not connect Champs to another bar abroad?

Willard Building

Placing a portal at the home of Penn State communications is only appropriate.

El Jefe’s

Everyone’s got to eat. Sharing some of Penn State’s fine dining with people all over the world is a must. Depending on the hours, people may even get dinner AND a show.

Nittanyville

This would be a perfect spot to have a portal. Residents of Nittanyville need a way to pass the time, so why not spend the time interacting with some people abroad?

HUB High School Musical Stairs

The HUB is one of the most popular places on campus. Putting a virtual portal on the high school musical steps would bring lots of attention to all things Penn State.

The Arboretum

The Arboretum would be a beautiful spot to showcase one of the many amazing things about Penn State. Nature lovers from all over the world can connect and maybe share a laugh about the comical plant names.

The Creamery

The Berkey Creamery is a popular spot and ice cream is a delicacy enjoyed all over the world. A portal here could facilitate wholesome interactions over some Alumni Swirl.

Lion Shrine

Lastly, the Lion Shrine. One of the landmarks of Penn State would be a great backdrop for people to look at through a portal from all over the world.
