How To Relieve Election Day Stress

Election Day is finally here, folks.

For some, Election Day can be exceptionally stressful, however, there are numerous ways around campus to help relieve it.

We compiled some of the best ways to help manage all the stress that comes with voting and Election Day.

Get Off Social Media

The best thing to do is limit your social media usage as much as you can. Follow along with a select number of news outlets to stay in the loop (especially your beloved Onward State), if you want to. But besides that, get off your phone!

Venture Around The Arboretum

The Arboretum offers a variety of ways to get away from the constant talk and banter that comes with election season and voting. From its beautiful gardens to the trails in Hartley Woods, there are always new views of calming nature to be found.

Go Exercise

While it may be the last thing on your mind, getting in some physical activity, especially something you may enjoy, can help decrease stress. From the IM and White Building to the Hepper Fitness Center and the Stone Valley Recreation Area, there are multiple fitness centers that are available to any Penn State student. There are plenty of opportunities to exercise and get your mind off politics for as long as you may need.

Take A Walk Around Campus

University Park is a huge campus with 7,958 total acres.

The leaves are starting to fall and the air is crisp, so it’s the perfect time for an afternoon walk. Take a stroll around campus in the cool, fall air and visit some landmarks like Old Main or the Lion Shrine. Take paths you’ve never taken before to class, visit a side of campus you haven’t been to in a while, and if you’re feeling creative, get a camera and go shoot photos at some of the unique and gorgeous places around campus. The world campus is your oyster.

Visit The Palmer Museum Of Art

The new Palmer Museum of Art has doubled its gallery spaces, featuring nearly 11,000 works of art. Take a long stroll around the multi-floor museum, and instead of contemplating the future of the country, analyze the meaning of each of the beautiful artworks the museum offers. After all that, you can treat yourself to a nice coffee at the cafe within the museum.

Get Work Done At The Library

If all else fails, bury yourself in piles of work from your classes.

There’s no better way to distract yourself than through the immense amount of homework you’ve been putting off until the last minute. Get it all done, and while you’re at it, get ahead. Turn that Election Day stress into the most productive day you’ve had all semester. Go find a comfy place in the library or your favorite study spot, put the pedal to the metal, and start working.
