Abdul Carter & Tyler Warren Named Semifinalists For Walter Camp Player Of The Year Award

Penn State football tight end Tyler Warren and defensive end Abdul Carter have been named 2024 Walter Camp Player of The Year Award semifinalists, the Walter Camp Foundation announced Wednesday.

Carter has been dominant for the Nittany Lions in his junior season, doubling his sack total from 2023. The junior defensive end has recorded 40 total tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles. Carter ranks second in the Big Ten in total sacks. The Maxwell Football Club nominated Carter as a semifinalist for the Bednarik Player of the Year Award on Tuesday.

The Walter Camp Foundation named Carter the National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Nittany Lions’ 35-6 victory over Washington, and the Maxwell Football Club also named Carter the Bednarik Defensive Player of the Week. The junior defensive end posted six total tackles and two sacks against the Huskies in Penn State’s annual White Out game.

Warren has enjoyed a breakout season in Andy Kotelnicki’s offense. The senior tight end leads the Nittany Lions in receiving with 681 yards and four touchdowns on 59 receptions, with another three touchdowns on the ground. He has been named a semifinalist for the Mackey Award and a finalist for the Hornung Award. Warren has broken the Penn State football record for the most receptions by a tight end in a single season and the most receiving yards by a tight end.

Warren and Carter are joined by the likes of Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr., South Carolina’s Kyle Kennard, Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, and Miami’s Cam Ward as semifinalists.

The 57th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award was LSU’s Jayden Daniels, who was drafted by the Washington Commanders.

Warren and Carter retake the field at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, to take on Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium.
