Downtown McDonald’s Closes In State College

The McDonald’s in downtown State College has closed its doors permanently, according to a sign on the door.

The restaurant stood on the corner of Sowers Street and College Avenue, across the street from the now-defunct Jimmy John’s and down the street from the now-defunct Are U Hungry. Sharkies Bar and Thrifty Bottle Shop is still operational across the street.

According to a State College Borough decision in 2022, McDonald’s will return at the ground floor of a high-rise at the corner of Sowers Street and College Avenue.

For those still looking to get their Big Mac fix, there are still three McDonald’s in the State College area. One sits at 2167 S. Atherton St., one’s at 1615 N. Atherton St., and one’s at 2821 E. College Ave.
