Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week 11 Roundup

The NFL concluded week 11 of action this past weekend, leaving eight more weeks of regular-season play.

The Nittany Lions dominated on Saturday, defeating Purdue 49-10 at Ross-Ade Stadium. Similarly, Penn Staters made their mark in the NFL, delivering dominant performances for their respective teams.

Let’s take a look at how those Nittany Lions did professionally this week.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Running back Saquon Barkley turned in another dominant performance in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football. Barkley rushed for 146 yards on 26 carries, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring two touchdowns. This outing pushed him over the 1,000-yard rushing milestone for the season. Barkley ranks second in the NFL in total rushing with 1,137 yards behind Ravens running back Derrick Henry, who sits atop the standings with 1,185 rushing yards.

Barkley reached 1,000 rushing yards in 176 carries, making him the fastest Philadelphia Eagle to reach 1,000 yards in a season. Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy previously held the record, reaching the milestone on 188 carries during the 2011 NFL season.

Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens

Linebacker Odafe Oweh was a constant presence in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ backfield during the Baltimore Ravens’ 16-18 loss, recording 2.5 sacks and five tackles. This marked his second multi-sack performance of the season, as he also recorded 2.5 sacks against the Las Vegas Raiders in week two. Oweh ranks 11th in the NFL with seven sacks.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

Tight end Juwan Johnson had a solid performance in the New Orleans Saints’ 35-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Johnson recorded 30 yards on three receptions, including a touchdown for the Saints in the fourth quarter.

Joey Porter Jr., Pittsburgh Steelers

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. played a pivotal role in the Steelers’ 18-16 victory over the Ravens, recording one assisted tackle and defending two passes. The second-year cornerback also made a crucial stop on the Ravens’ two-point conversion attempt that would have given Baltimore the lead.

Yetur Gross-Matos, San Francisco 49ers

Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos was activated off of the injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury in week four. Gross-Matos recorded two total tackles and a sack in his return to the field, though his San Francisco 49ers lost 20-17 to the Seattle Seahawks.

Ji’Ayir Brown, San Francisco 49ers

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown has been reliable in the back end of the 49ers defense. During San Francisco’s 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Brown recorded two solo tackles and three assisted tackles.
