Saquon Barkley Earns Fourth NFC Offensive Player Of The Week
Former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley has been named NFC Offensive Player of The Week for the fourth time this season. Barkey delivered a historical performance in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 37-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football.
Against Los Angeles, Barkley rushed for 255 yards, hauled in two receptions for 47 yards, and scored two touchdowns. He broke the Philadelphia Eagles franchise record for the most rushing yards in a single game, beating out LeSean McCoy, who rushed for 217 yards in the snow against the Detroit Lions in 2013.
Barkley enters week 13 of the NFL season leading the league in total rushing with 1,392 yards. He is the only player in Philadelphia Eagles history to earn four NFC Offensive Player of the Week awards in a single season. If Barkley earns one more Offensive Player of The Week nod, he will be tied for the record with Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, and Tom Brady, who all earned five in a single season. Barkley was previously named NFC Offensive Player of the Week in weeks one, seven, and nine.
Throughout his time with the New York Giants, Barkley was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week three times in six seasons. Barkley has been dominant for Philadelphia and has a chance to top the NFL single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards, held by Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson. He is on pace to finish the season with 2,151 rushing yards.
Barkley is set to retake the field at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, when the Eagles face the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
