Aaron Nagao Out With Long-Term Injury

Penn State wrestling redshirt junior Aaron Nagao has suffered an undisclosed long-term injury, according to head coach Cael Sanderson.

“[Nagao] won’t be back anytime soon… He had a major surgery,” Sanderson said. “He got injured last spring and had surgery right away… It’s an injury that you take as much time and even more than you need to ensure his long-term health. He’s not trying to get back anytime soon.”

Braeden Davis is expected to start most of the season at 133 pounds for the Nittany Lions, hurting Nagao’s chances of a return during this campaign.

Nagao, an All-American at Minnesota before transferring to Penn State, went 17-7 in his last campaign for the blue and white, finishing third in the Big Ten Championships and one win shy of his second All-American in the 2024 NCAA national tournament. Nagao tallied two falls, seven techs, and four majors across his 17 victories last season.
