Four Penn State Football Defensive Players Named To All-Big Ten Teams

Penn State football had four players selected to All-Big Ten teams on Tuesday. Defensive end Abdul Carter was named as a first-team selection, linebacker Kobe King and safety Jaylen Reed were second-team selections, and cornerback AJ Harris was Penn State’s sole third-team selection.

Carter earned the placement after a stellar regular season, lighting up opposing offensive lines and terrorizing quarterbacks. Carter amassed 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 19.5 tackles for loss. He had two sacks in Penn State’s domination of Maryland to close out the regular season.

Carter’s selection added to the illustrious amount of awards he’s also won this year. He was also named the Big Ten’s Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year and the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year and is a finalist for the Bednarik Award and the Lombardi Award.

King and Reed have made themselves known as key contributors to a Penn State defense that has gotten stronger as the season progressed.

King has amassed three sacks for a career-high and one pass defended while notching 62 total tackles. Reed has been a crucial component of the secondary, topped off by a momentum-swinging pick-six in the third quarter of Penn State’s win against Wisconsin. He has three total interceptions, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Harris was the final Nittany Lion selected to an All-Big Ten team. The sophomore cornerback has one interception on the year coupled with four passes defended and 32 total tackles. His sole interception came in Penn State’s win against Illinois on September 28.

Penn State’s honorable mentions included linebacker Tony Rojas and defensive tackle Zane Durant.
