Jess Mruzik & Izzy Starck Named To AVCA All-American Teams

Penn State women’s volleyball players Jess Mruzik and Izzy Starck were named to AVCA All-American Teams, the organization announced Wednesday morning.

Mruzik, a senior outside hitter, was named to the All-American first team after racking up 510 kills so far this season, which ranks No. 20 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten.

As one of four players from the conference on the first team, this was Mruzik’s third AVCA All-American recognition, being an honorable mention in 2021 and making the second team last year.

Freshman setter Starck was named to the All-American Second Team after leading the Big Ten with 1,372 assists this season. Starck was also named the Freshman of the Year by the conference and the AVCA East Coast Region.

Additionally, middle blocker Taylor Trammell and outside hitter Camryn Hannah were recognized by the AVCA as honorable mentions.

Mruzik, Starck, and the Nittany Lions will be back on the court Thursday night for a national semifinal matchup with Nebraska at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The match will be televised on ESPN with first serve set for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 6:30 p.m. Pitt-Louisville match.
