Penn State Football To Wear Generations Of Greatness Uniforms Against SMU

Penn State football will wear it’s Generations of Greatness uniforms against SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff, a Penn State Athletics spokesperson confirmed to Onward State. The uniform choice is a change from the Nittany Lions standard uniforms with differences in fonts, helmets, and more that call back to uniforms of past Penn State teams.
The Generations of Greatness uniforms are typically worn during Homecoming games and feature callbacks to past Penn State teams. Notably, the helmets have players’ numbers and the fonts of the numbers change.
Penn State’s game against SMU has some historical significance past it being the Nittany Lions’ first game in the playoffs. The school’s famous “We Are” chant started against SMU in the Cotton Bowl in 1948. Because of efforts made by Penn State’s athletes, the 1948 Cotton Bowl was the first to allow Black players.
