Penn State Football To Face Notre Dame In Orange Bowl

Penn State football will face Notre Dame in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, January 9. The Fighting Irish defeated Georgia 23-10 in the Sugar Bowl Thursday night, though the game was delayed by a night after a terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Notre Dame previously defeated Indiana 27-17 in the first round of the playoffs in South Bend, Indiana, the night before Penn State beat SMU at Beaver Stadium.

Thus far into the season, the Fighting Irish are 13-1 with a lone loss coming in a 16-14 upset to NIU on September 7. Since then, Notre Dame has rattled off wins against the likes of Army, Navy, USC, and more.

Penn State and Notre Dame have faced off 19 times, with each team winning nine times with one tie. Penn State won the most recent matchup, a 31-10 win in the first full Beaver Stadium White Out in 2007, and the teams had a notable rivalry in the 1980s and the early part of the ’90s.

Kickoff for the Orange Bowl is set for 7:30 p.m. on January 9 in Miami, Florida. ESPN will broadcast the affair.
