Report: Former Penn State Football Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich To Join Youngstown State

Former Penn State football offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is set to join Youngstown State as its offensive coordinator, according to FootballScoop. Yurcich was fired from the same role at Penn State last year after the Nittany Lions lost to Michigan.

Yurcich, who also coached Penn State’s quarterbacks, served as the Nittany Lions offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023. While his Penn State offenses consistently scored 30+ points during his last two years as offensive coordinator, they struggled against Ohio State and Michigan. After months of James Franklin hinting that he wanted Penn State’s offensive to be more explosive, Yurcich was terminated.

Before coming to Penn State, Yurcich was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas in 2020. He was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Ohio State in 2019 and the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2018. Yurcich previously had stints at Shippensburg, Edinboro, Indiana, and Saint Francis.

Youngstown State competes in the FCS and plays in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Last year, the Penguins went 4-8 and averaged 27.2 points per game.
