Tom Allen Officially Hired As Clemson Defensive Coordinator

Former Penn State football defensive coordinator Tom Allen has officially been hired as Clemson’s next defensive coordinator, the program announced on Monday. Allen left Penn State football after one year in the same role.

Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Allen’s deal is worth $2 million annually for three years.

Allen came to Penn State after Manny Diaz left the role to become the head coach at Duke. Before taking the job at Penn State, Allen was the head coach at Indiana from 2017 to 2023, leading the Hoosiers to a 33-49 record during his tenure.

Allen took over one of the top defensive units in the nation after the departure of Diaz and managed to maintain a top-10 group during the 2024 season. The Nittany Lions ranked seventh in the total defense, eighth in points per game, and ninth against the run nationally while allowing just 16 points per game this season.

James Franklin will now search for his third defensive coordinator in four years.
