Transfer Portal Roundup: Postseason

Penn State football’s season came to an end after a close loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, culminating in a ride that took the blue and white from Happy Valley to Miami.

However, many other former Nittany Lions also played in the postseason, whether it was in bowl games or in the College Football Playoff.

Let’s dive into how some former Penn Staters performed in the postseason.

Malik McClain, Arizona State

Former Penn State wideout Malik McClain played in the Big 12 Championship and the Peach Bowl as a Sun Devil. He had almost identical performances, with one catch for 43 yards against Iowa State, and another catch for 42 yards and a touchdown against Texas in Arizona State’s thrilling playoff quarterfinal against the Longhorns.

London Montgomery, East Carolina

Running back London Montgomery rushed seven times for 16 yards in East Carolina’s Military Bowl win over NC State. His 2.3 average yards per rush average was his lowest of the season since September.

King Mack, Alabama

King Mack saw the field in Alabama’s ReliaQuest Bowl loss to Michigan, where he recorded two total tackles. He ended his season with 14 total tackles. Mack is set to make his return to Happy Valley in 2025 after transferring back to Penn State.

Dante Cephas, Kansas State

Wide receiver Dante Cephas snagged two catches for 42 yards in Kansas State’s high-scoring Rate Bowl win over Rutgers, one of which was an explosive 35-yard play. Cephas finished his season with 15 receptions for 184 yards, averaging an impressive 12.3 yards per catch. He also declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jordan Van Den Berg, Georgia Tech

Defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg totaled three tackles in Georgia Tech’s Birmingham Bowl loss against Vanderbilt. Van Den Berg’s season totals rounded out to 23 tackles, one sack, and two fumble recoveries for the Yellow Jackets.

Devyn Ford, Notre Dame

Running back Devyn Ford didn’t play in the postseason with Notre Dame, but he did make the national championship. Not bad.
